MATCHED CTS POTS! Wow!
Even with the best of quality pots (like CTS brand), there is a +/- 20% variable tolerance that is acceptable during manufacture.
That means if you bought a CTS 500k pot off-the-shelf, it could digitally meter out to be only 400k! (Gadzooks!)
Pure tone affecionados say that, in order to get great tone out of those humbuckers of your's, you must have pots that
measure at least 500k or better. We go through about 80 to 100 pots with a digital meter before we get 4 that are closely enough matched (a variation of 20k from the highest rated pot to the lowest) to sell as matched! An expensive process to be sure but one that delivers to you only the best of the high quality volume and tone controls.
